(FixThisNation.com) – Former New Jersey Governor and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie made a surprise trip to Ukraine where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. His visit came during a time when the Republican party was greatly divided on the correct handling of the war in Ukraine.

Following the meeting Christie took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to write that he was honored to have met with Zelensky and to have seen the heroism displayed by the Ukrainians as they fought against Russia. He then pointed out that it was not possible for the U.S. to move forward while ignoring what was happening in the rest of the world.

Christie has promised that if he wins the White House he is going to increase the U.S. aid given to Ukraine. During his visit to the war-torn country, he went to Moshchun and Bucha, two of the towns that were primary locations of fighting in the early months of the invasion.

As he mentioned during the visit it was possible for him to feel the inhumanity and cruelty as he visited the country. He added that any American who got the chance to visit Ukraine would be completely in favor of the U.S. doing everything possible to prevent this situation.

Christie is not the first presidential candidate to visit Ukraine as in June former Vice President Mike Pence also had a trip to the country. Within the Republican Party, there is a division as there are those who believe it is integral for the country to continue aiding Ukraine’s efforts, while others have opposed sending any additional funding or military aid to the country.
