(FixThisNation.com) – Cassie Head, is a teacher by day and server at a local restaurant by the evening. As she revealed to Newsweek it felt “unfair” that she had spent so many years studying and was still not receiving a “livable wage.”
After posting a video on TikTok about her situation, many other teachers started commenting and sharing what their evening job was. The video has been viewed over 3 million times and it revealed that the majority of teachers were working as waitresses or bartenders in the evening to survive.
Head, 25, stated that one of the best parts of her job is that she got to have a relationship with the students and see how they grew through each of the lessons that she taught. However, the 25-year-old revealed that while she loves her job she was originally horrified by her starting salary.
She added that after she received her first offer, she realized that as a single mother, she was going to have a hard time paying for all her bills and expenses. As she revealed she had only received $37,000 as a full-time fourth-grade teacher which would not have been enough to sustain her. Teachers are usually given the option to either get 21 paychecks during the weeks that they are working or to have their annual salary divided into 26 paychecks to cover all their expenses. Head opted for the latter option to ensure that she would always have some income even when school was out.
