(FixThisNation.com) – On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters that MAGA Republicans were deliberately attempting to harm the U.S. economy in an effort to improve their chances in the 2024 races.
As the New York representative told Reporters the focus right now was on avoiding not increasing the debt ceiling which could lead to the country defaulting on its debt. He added that they cannot allow MAGA Republicans to “crash the economy and trigger a job-killing recession,” which is what many of them want to do because they believe that that could help them win more in 2024.
He proceeded to say that this approach was not only “irresponsible” but also “unpatriotic” and “un-American.” He then praised Biden for his efforts to protect the U.S. economy.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has been working to gather support for the deal that he has made with President Biden for increasing the debt ceiling. However, so far, the conservatives in the House have strongly opposed the deal. Conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus have opposed the deal because as Rep. Chip Roy pointed out it does not include any substantial spending cuts, thus, violating the agreement that they had previously made with McCarthy.
Roy took to Twitter to state that the deal was not “good” and that a “two-year spending freeze” was not enough to handle the $4 Trillion in debt.
McCarthy has defended the deal stating that while it was not everything they wanted, this is the biggest cut Congress will have voted for in that process.
