(FixThisNation.com) – Following President Biden’s ultimatum that he would withhold arms from Israel if they proceeded with their plans to invade Rafah, Hamas launched missile rockets against Israel on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, for the first time since December Hamas in Rafah launched rockets against Beersheva, a southern city in Israel. The attack took place as Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy sent out a rocket against Kiryat Shmona, another city in Israel which resulted in a massive fire. On Friday, four Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip were killed.
Jonathan Conricus, who had served for 24 years in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) argued that when administration officials criticized publicly Israel it resulted in Hamas asking for more in exchange for releasing the hostages. He added that this has also reduced the odds of having success in these negotiations.
As he pointed out when there is tension between the U.S. and Israel, which is its strongest ally in the region, the country’s adversaries are emboldened and continue to attack Israel while using human shields. This is because they understand that in time the United States is going to be punishing Israel regardless of the actions taken by Hamas or Hezbollah.
During the Gaza war, Conricus has served as an IDF spokesman. As he pointed out the American statements would in the short term lead to enhanced violence and fighting which would just work to embolden the enemies of Israel. He added that in the long run, it could lead to one more ally of the U.S. in the Middle East moving away from the country’s sphere of influence.
