(FixThisNation.com) – On Monday, President Biden delivered a speech at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston where he was interrupted by demonstrators calling for a cease-fire in Gaza.
Biden, focused his speech on American democracy and freedom being under assault. However, as he was speaking inside the church, where in 2015 a white supremacist had killed nine people, all of whom were Black, demonstrators could be heard from inside the Church. One of the women shouted that if Biden cared about lost lives, then he needed to be calling for a cease-fire in Gaza and honoring the lives of those who had died in Palestine.
Many others in the church proceeded to start chanting “Cease fire now!” While the demonstrators were escorted out, Biden’s supporters were quick to start chanting “Four more years!”
Biden responded to the incident by stating that he understood their passion and that he had been working with the Israeli government to reduce the casualties in Gaza and assist the Palestinian people.
This is not the first time that Biden has had to come face to face with protesters as the Democratic party is widely divided on how the Israel-Hamas war should be handled. Many on the left have been pushing for a cease-fire.
However, the White House has opposed these calls, arguing that a potential cease-fire would only give the Palestinians more chances to regroup. Instead, Biden has been pushing Israel to reduce the impact of its operations on civilians and has encouraged a more targeted military campaign.
