Florida Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R) has called for more information to be released about the group of over two dozen illegal immigrants who had landed in southern Florida in the last week. In an interview on Fox News Digital on Friday Gimenez argued that he did not know who these people were or what they were doing there. He also questioned what their purpose was.

However, he did argue that all Americans should be concerned especially as under the Biden administration the world was becoming more unsafe.

Last week Florida officials announced that they had apprehended three illegal immigrants from Ecuador and 17 illegal immigrants from China after they arrived by boat in Key Largo. While all the Ecuadorians had been men, the Chinese nationals included six women and 11 men.

The group was apprehended by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) who then took them into Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody.

Gimenez who belongs in both the China and the Homeland Security select committees stated that it was unsurprising that such an event had taken place considering the policies currently in place by the federal government. He added that there has been an increase in Chinese presence in the Bahamas, central South America, and Cuba.

He added that it was worrying that these military-aged men were trying to enter the U.S. from China. HE added that he intended to gather more information on the origin of these nationals as well as find out more about their intentions for coming to the U.S. and their personal backgrounds.
