(FixThisNatino.com) – On Monday Van Jones, a political commentator, argued that the decision of the Supreme Court that the core presidential powers should be immune from any criminal prosecution was essentially like handing former President Donald Trump a “license to thug.”
This is an important victory for Trump as the federal election interference case against him is going to go back to court to decide whether he should be facing the charges. However, it is likely that this decision will set all of Trump’s decisions after the presidential election outside the scope of a trial.
Still, Jones argued that this could cause further concerns about what Trump might do if he is reelected. He added that on a political scale, this is like handing him a “license to thug in a sense.” He noted that it is essentially like telling him that he could do whatever he wanted and would most likely get off without trouble because of the Supreme Court. He stated that this was a “very frightening” possibility that was leaving him concerned.
The Supreme Court in a 6-3 decision along ideological lines made a decision that almost granted Trump with total immunity. Jones argued that the justices would need to decide whether they cared more about the possibility of a sitting president conducting unlawfully or being unfairly prosecuted. However, based on this decision it is obvious that the latter is more concerning to him.
He added that on a political level, this decision was “bad” and it made the highest court appear partisan.
