(FixThisNation.com) – Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) slammed the Republican Congress members who took the time this week to attend former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York City. Specifically, she targeted those who opted to be in New York on Thursday rather than attend the hearing over whether or not Attorney General Merrick Garland should be held in contempt.
At the hearing, Swalwell started by saying that it was nice that some of her Republican colleagues managed to attend the hearings. She added that she does not know if this is an indication that the New York courtroom does not have enough seats. She pointed out that she knew that the Oversight Committee had opted to cancel a meeting that was meant to take place right now just so some lawmakers could attend the criminal trial.
She continued by stating that there would be some people who would miss the vote because they want to attend the president’s trial, which she argues is the biggest indication of the phrase “Do-nothing Congress.” She added that this was more than just having some hearings canceled and missing a vote, but rather it was the decision to just attend as a spectator “your cult leader’s trial,” rather than do something in Congress.
Trump is currently facing trial for 34 charges relating to the falsifying of business records in connection to a hush money payment that was meant to cover up his affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump has maintained that he is innocent and has denied the affair.
Over the last week, nine Republican lawmakers made it to New York City including Reps. Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Matt Gaetz (Fla.), Ralph Norman (S.C.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.). Biggs and Gaetz are Judiciary Committee members and they missed the hearing on Thursday to attend the trial.
