(FixThisNation.com) – On Friday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) attacked former President Donald Trump, calling for him to return around $7.8 million that his companies had received from foreign governments during his time in the White House.
The letter was sent following the recent report containing these allegations that was released last week by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee Democrats. In the report, they claimed that Trump’s company had received money from foreign entities in 20 countries during Trump’s time in office. They alleged that these payments violated the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
Raskin in his own letter had pointed out that the acceptance of these funds was not only a violation of the Constitution but also a betrayal of U.S. interests and the American people.
Around $5.6 million of the payments had come from China and had been given to hotels owned by Trump’s companies in Las Vegas and Washington, as well as his Trump Tower in New York. Raskin also pointed out that the $7.8 million figure was not complete as it did not account for the money received by Trump. He added that Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) had curtailed the investigation last January after becoming the chair of the committee.
Raskin pointed out that the report was not currently providing the full account of the total amount that Trump had accepted as foreign emoluments or how much he owed to the American people. He added that Trump had “spent years litigating against the Committee” in order to block them from getting access to any documents concerning the foreign emoluments he had received during his time in office.
