(FixThisNation.com) – Former Rep. Will Hurd of Texas announced that he would be dropping out of the 2024 Republican presidential race and instead expressed his support for Nikki Hailey, one of the 2024 presidential candidates.

The former CIA spy who had served as congressman for three terms had launched a longshot bid in June for the GOP nomination. However, on Monday he announced on social media that it was now clear to him that he needed to put an end to his campaign.

Hurd is the second GOP presidential candidate to have quit the race. In August, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez had exited the presidential race.

Hurd has previously been extremely critical of former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race. In his post on X, formerly referred to as Twitter, he pointed out that it was necessary for the United States to have a leader that would help unite them, especially in relation to the current issues faced by the nation regarding their national security.

Hurd proceeded to praise Haley stating that during her time serving in the Trump administration. He further praised Haley for reportedly showing a new vision for the country’s future and for having such a great understanding of the complexities of U.S. foreign policy. He added that these are why he would be backing Haley for the remainder of the presidential race.

Haley in a social media post following this latest endorsement shared that the country was currently at a crossroads but that it was important for them to save the country by ensuring that President Biden would only spend one term serving in office.

Haley, who is widely perceived to have won both of the Republican presidential debates, has been climbing in the polls and according to some recent surveys in New Hampshire, she has climbed to the number two spot, behind Trump.
