(FixThisNation.com) – On Monday, the Georgia Supreme Court denied former President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to quash the probe that is looking into his attempts to overturn the presidential election results in the state in 2020.
The court’s nine justices in a unanimous decision declined the request from Trump’s legal team to completely block the investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D). In March Trump also filed a motion that would completely block Willis’s investigation, however, that filing is still with the lower court which has not yet made a decision.
The Court determined in the five-page opinion that it is not possible for the petitioner to go around the “ordinary channels” available for relief. They added that there has not been any proof as to why this case should be considered as one of the “extremely rare circumstances” where the original jurisdiction of the court needed to be invoked, which is why the petition was being dismissed.
Last week, Trump filed a separate suit to the Fulton County Superior Court despite the fact that filing with both courts at the same time is “disfavored.”
Trump’s lawsuit had specifically claimed that the lower court judge had not issued a decision following his lawsuit in March. In the brief sent to the state’s Supreme Court, his legal team had pointed out that Trump had made every possible attempt to use the regular procedures but that these attempts have been ignored. They further pointed out that Willis’ recent moves and statements are an indication that the case is going to move forward with charges soon.
