(FixThisNation.com) – On Monday President Biden during his visit at Lahaina Civic Center in Maui remarked that they were going to help “build” everything “back better.” He added that they were going to help rebuild everything in the way that the Maui people wanted. To visit Maui, Biden had to take some time off from his week-long vacation in Lake Tahoe with his family to visit the island that recently suffered because of the devastating wildfires.
Alicia Kalepa, a Maui resident, urged President Biden to honor the promise he had made to the locals about rebuilding the island after the wildfires. However, as she pointed out she was not a fan of Biden’s claims that they were going to be building the community and homes “better.” Instead, she argued that for a lot of people, the things that were lost during the wildfire are not replaceable, and “there’s no ‘better.’”
She added that while she might have misunderstood what the President had said, that comment did not sit well with her. Still, she did appreciate that the President visited the area to see what had happened and speak with some of the victims. This was why she was going to hold him to his word about rebuilding everything in the way that the Maui residents wanted.
Biden has received criticism from both sides over his handling of the wildfires which have led to more than 110 people losing their lives and according to Richard Bissen, the Maui County Mayor, there are still 850 people who are missing.
