(FixThisNation.com) – ABC News on Sunday released footage of Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., from the preparations for the 2018 gubernatorial debate. According to the report, the recording showcases the way in which DeSantis managed to gain the support of former President Donald Trump’s base while also creating his own pathway as a candidate.

Dave Abrams, a spokesman for DeSantis’ political team released a statement to Fox News Digital in which he noted that the report was “another swing and a miss from Disney-funded ABC.” He proceeded to argue that the only thing that ABC managed to showcase through the leaked footage is that DeSantis is during all circumstances his “authentic self.”

In the specific exchange that ABC reported on Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., asked DeSantis whether there were any issues that he disagreed with then-President Trump’s position on. DeSantis responded by letting out a deep sign and stating that he needed to “figure out how to do this.” He added that there are clearly certain issues he disagrees with Trump on, as he voted against Trump in Congress, but he needed to find a way to present his opinions without pushing away any possible voters.

Gaetz also commented on the ABC report on Twitter, stating that the release of the recording was “disloyal hackery” and that while he helped DeSantis with the debate preparation in 2018, he was supporting Trump for the White House.

DeSantis has not yet announced his presidential race, but he did state on Friday that his decision would come “relatively soon.”
