How McCarthy Could Give Biden More Power

(FixThisNation.com) – House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) during an appearance on “The Truth with Lisa Boothe” with podcast host Lisa Boothe spoke about the Congress Sept. 30 funding deadline and the possibility of a government shutdown.

As McCarthy pointed out, if the government were to shut down all they would be doing is empowering the Democrats and President Biden. He further argued that the military and the U.S. border patrol officials would  not receive payment which would essentially leave the U.S. southern border “wide open.” In the past few weeks, McCarthy has argued with the House Republicans who have delayed the appropriations processes and has even received threats by members of his conference about calling for his removal from the leadership position.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) previously stated that if McCarthy did not follow through with the previously agreed spending priorities, then he would call for his removal from the Speakership. McCarthy had to agree to a number of concessions in order to win the necessary votes to become the House Speaker.

GOP leadership and hardline conservatives have spent the past few months fighting over the spending bills, and in May they managed to narrowly avoid having the government shutdown by voting on an increase in the debt ceiling.

Congress has less than two weeks before they hit the deadline for a government shutdown. As McCarthy pointed out they wanted to have a government that was both limited and functioning. He added that they wanted the government to be accountable which is why they were going to push the appropriation bills forward in order to finish the job.
