( – The New York Police Department (NYPD) had to arrest 325 pro-Palestinian demonstrators who had blocked the Brooklyn Bridge in protest while pushing for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

On Monday, the police had arrested those who were blocking three New York bridges, and the Holland Tunnel. NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell stated that the demonstrations had started at around 9:40 a.m. and that the NYPD had moved forward with the arrests at 11:15 a.m. with the help of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and had managed to clear the locations.

The protesters had gathered at the Holland Tunnel, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, and Brooklyn Bridge carrying signs calling for the siege in Gaza to be lifted and for the occupation of Gaza to come to an end.

City officials had also been present to clear the traffic in the area.

The protestors were caught on video chanting “free Palestine” a chant that has become increasingly more common in recent months as Israel continues its retaliatory ground invasion in Gaza which has resulted in over 23,000 Palestinian deaths. The attack on Gaza started as a retaliation following the Hamas Oct. 7 attack which had resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israelis, while hundreds of other Israelis were taken hostage.

Similar protests have become commonplace over the last few months. On Monday, a demonstrator interrupted President Biden’s speech in South Carolina to call for a ceasefire. Biden had responded by claiming that they were working with the Israeli government to reduce casualties in Gaza.
