(FixThisNation.com) – On Saturday, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke in Charlotte, N.C., exactly one year after the Supreme Court overturned the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade. During her speech, Harris focused on the need to codify abortion access in federal law and argued that the overturning of abortion rights has created a health crisis within the country.

President Biden and Harris had received a number of key endorsements from women’s rights organizations and abortion access nonprofits a day earlier. Harris has also indicated that abortion access would be one of the key issues that she is going to focus on during her reelection bid in 2024.

In a video message on Saturday, she noted that “extremists” had pushed forward laws that banned abortions and did not provide any exceptions for cases of rape or incest. She added that they now wanted to make these national laws and destroy the “basic rights and principles” that the U.S. was founded on.

Many political experts have attributed the Democrat’s success in the 2022 midterm elections to the abortion issue, especially as Harris, the first female vice president, has been a strong proponent of reproductive health care and abortion rights.

On Saturday, Harris voted to continue working towards the codification of laws that would protect abortion rights. In the video she shared from the White House, the caption was also focused on how Biden and her would continue to fight so that American women would have the right to their “health, lives, families, and futures.”
