( – Last week, protesters and police clashed outside the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters leading to lawmakers needing to be evacuated from the premises.

A handful of Democrats shared on social media that they were within the building at the time of the protest and that they had to be evacuated. Capitol Police noted that their officers were called to respond to around 150 people who were protesting “illegally and violently” close to the building at around 8:30 p.m.

The law enforcement agency also stated that all members had been evacuated from the building including Reps. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) and Brad Sherman (D-Calif.).

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sherman stated that he was grateful to the police officers who had aided in the evacuation and had been there to block the pro-terrorist anti-Israel protests who were trying to break into the building.

Casten similarly shared that there had been protesters blocking all of the entrances and exits of the building. He added that they had been aided by armed officers who knew that they needed to aid the Congress members who were stuck inside the building. He added that making the police “guess intent is irresponsible and dangerous.” He added that he was grateful to the officers for their work in ensuring that they were all safely evacuated. He also pointed out that the situation could have turned out much worse and that while Americans had the right to process, they should do so at a safe distance while respecting the orders given by local police.
