(FixThisNation.com) – A recent DHS report revealed lax border control allowed ISIS to enter the U.S.
On Thursday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) criticized the Biden administration’s border policies following a report by the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that revealed eight migrants with suspected ties to ISIS entered the U.S.
The report highlighted the failures in vetting and screening migrants who arrive at the Southern border. The report coincided with the arrest of eight Tajikistan nationals with suspected ties to ISIS by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Graham, a Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member, stated during a Thursday hearing that the full Senate should be briefed about how ISIS fighters could enter the U.S. through the Southern border.
The South Carolina Republican expressed his fears that the arrest of the eight Tajikistan nationals was “the tip of the iceberg,” adding that the Biden administration’s “catch and release” coupled with “poor vetting” should not be the country’s path forward.
Graham also expressed his hope that the Biden administration would take the DHS report “to heart” and pursue meaningful reforms.
He also pointed to tragedies that occurred because of lax border controls, highlighting the death of Laken Riley, whose accused murderer had been “paroled into the country,” not because of “statutory factors” but because there was a “lack of detention capacity.”
The GOP Senator added that the report was a “wake-up call,” but noted that the sting operation that resulted in the arrest of the eight individuals was “beyond a wake-up call,” and that it would lead to the Senate taking “corrective action” before it was “too late.”
