( – Shawn Fain, the president of United Auto Workers (UAW) , has reiterated his support for President Joe Biden after the President gave the union a shoutout during the State of the Union address.

On Saturday, during an interview on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” Fain had argued that Biden had a long history of serving people and supporting working-class people. However, he added former President Donald Trump’s history is one of self-service and supporting the billionaire class. This statement was made during the interview with hosts Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez.

Biden during his State of the Union address called Fain a “great friend and a great labor leader.” Previously the UAW had endorsed President Biden in the 2024 presidential race. Fain argued that when the union made an endorsement they were not instructing union members on who they should vote for, instead they were just taking the facts, and the work that someone had done and telling the union members that these were all things that they needed to look at when choosing who was going to best represent the working class interest.

On Thursday night, Biden delivered his State of the Union address. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who was seated behind the president during the speech, told reporters that there were people who had argued that during the speech he had made “funny facial expressions” but that he had attempted to maintain a poker face during the address. He proceeded to say that this was tough to do in some cases as he disagreed so strongly with some of the things that Biden had said.
