(FixThisNation.com) – Former United Nations Ambassador and Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley stated during a recent “fair-side chat” with Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday that if she wins the White House, she would cut down the funding received by sanctuary cities.

During the discussion Haley talked about her approach to the southern border, arguing that if she wins the White House, she is going to take action to deal with the situation. As she said the first thing she would do would be to “defund sanctuary cities.” Sanctuary cities are defined as municipalities that provide undocumented immigrants with more protection. Republicans have widely criticized the existence of these areas.

In the last year, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have both transported illegal migrants from border states to other sanctuary cities across the U.S. These operations have widely been viewed as political moves.

Haley also proposed that they should reallocate the federal budget given to the IRS and give it to the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) so that 25,000 new agents could be hired to secure the border. She also supports the idea of the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols being reintroduced. The policy was widely referred to as the “Remain in Mexico” policy and it was opposed by the Biden administration.

However, Haley argued that they should return back to this policy, and rather than following a “catch-and-release” policy, they should instead deport those they catch so that they can stop the border crisis.
