Arrest and Charges

David Hansen Lever, a real estate agent from Greenville, North Carolina, faces charges of triple murder. Authorities identified the victims as 80-year-old Anthony Gribble, 76-year-old Paula Gribble, and 64-year-old Enrique Reyes. Lever, once a highly regarded partner at Lever & Russel Real Estate LLC, allegedly used his real estate ties to connect with the victims.

Authorities apprehended Lever after the Gribbles’ son bravely detained him at gunpoint, preventing potential additional casualties. Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance remarked, “The investigation of these cases leads us to believe there would have been additional victims had a family member of the victims not intervened until our deputies were able to arrive.” Lever was soon taken into custody by deputies.

Investigation Details

The investigation revealed Lever owned an extensive collection of over 50 firearms, found in his van and home. Additionally, Enrique Reyes was identified as a retired university biology professor, suspected to be Lever’s first victim. Disturbingly, Lever was also seen on video discharging a firearm from a van at a gas station, although fortunately, no one was harmed.

Four crime scenes connected to Lever are under scrutiny. One involved a house near Lever’s residence that was fired into, although no occupants were present at the time.

Legal Proceedings and Community Impact

Lever is scheduled to appear in court on January 29 to face three counts of murder. His erratic behavior during his initial hearing, where he insulted the judge, has not gone unnoticed. Despite this, Lever had previously maintained a reputable image in the community, being integral in the Gribbles’ purchase of their home.

TD Gribble, son of slain Anthony and Paula Gribble, described his parents as dedicated and caring individuals. His father was a decorated Vietnam veteran, and his mother was respected for her long career as a nurse educator. The motive behind these heinous acts remains unclear as authorities continue to deepen their investigation, uncovering Lever’s intent and connections to the victims.
