(FixThisNation.com) – Florida lawmakers are considering a bill that could lead to the gay pride flags and other flags representative of other political movements being banned from flying on public properties. This would also include schools and college campuses.
This week, the initial House panel voted to have the bill advanced. This is the latest example in Florida of an attempt to reduce the display of pro-LGBTQ efforts.
The bill is sponsored by state Rep. David Borrero (R), who argued during the hearing that these displays in classrooms were leading to the subliminal indoctrination of children. He added that his bill had a very simple premise that everyone in the committee should agree with, which is that taxpayer dollars should not be used to subsidize political speech in classrooms and other buildings.
He added that it was time for them to step up and block local governments and public school teachers from using public settings to indoctrinate students. As part of the bill, flags that represented any political viewpoint, including those related to political parties, gender, race, and sexual orientation would no longer be allowed on government properties. There would also be a ban on lapel pins that feature flags linked to causes related to this.
Borrero pointed out during the hearing that this measure would also include any Black Lives Matter flags. As GOP state Rep. Randy Fine said, the only flag that should be displayed in public buildings needed to be unifying in nature, which is why the American flag was the only one that needed to be displayed.
