(FixThisNation.com) – On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) argued that his state would not be following the Title IX changes imposed by the Biden administration. The new changes to the federal civil rights law prohibit any sex-based discrimination from schools that receive state funding.
Abbott sent a letter to President Joe Biden in which he spoke up against the revised rules which now include protection for transgender students. He argued that the rules are “illegal” and part of the left’s attempt to impose their views onto Title IX. He continues by pointing out that this move exceeded the authority that Biden is given as the U.S. President.
In his letter, Abbott points out that Biden has effectively rewritten Title IX to mandate that schools would be required to accept the self-declared gender identity of all students.
Following the Department of Education’s revelation of the finalized Title IX rules, many GOP-led states have argued that they would be rejecting the rule. In Louisiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wyoming, and Florida officials have publicly slammed the changes the Biden administration made to the rule. They have also claimed that the new policies would roll back women’s rights through the expansion of the definition of sex discrimination to now also include gender identity discrimination.
In his letter, Abbott has argued that he would instruct his state government to not adhere to any new policies. This statement was made about the concerns that the policies were conflicting with the state law in Texas.
He continued by pointing out that he has instructed the Texas Education Agency to completely dismiss Biden’s “illegal dictate” and argues that the rewrite of Title IX exceeded Biden’s constitutional authority while also trampling the laws that Abbott has put in place to protect women’s sports from men competing in them.
