(FixThisNation.com) – A Sunday Report from the Wall Street Journal noted that in January there was a 50- percent decrease in illegal crossings through the U.S.-Mexico border. This means that daily there were anywhere between 4,000 and 5,000 migrants who passed through. This is a dramatic decline from the 8,000 to 9,000 migrants who had crossed in December.

This decline was the result of the latest policies that the Biden administration unveiled on how they would deal with the border crisis. The new policies focused on providing new pathways for asylum seekers as well as putting policies in place that would deter further crossings.

While there are members of the Democratic party who are not happy with the measures, there has been some support for the new measures coming from an unlikely source. Doug Nicholls, the Republican mayor of border city Yuma, Arizona, has praised the Biden administration for their latest border policies.

As Nicholls pointed out, the decline in migrants crossing into the country shows that there must have been some effect from the latest policies that the President enacted. Yuma is a common crossing point used by migrants who wish to enter the country.

In January the Biden administration announced that Title 42 was going to be expanded to include migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. This allows migrants of these nationalities to immediately be turned back without having to go through the asylum process. According to the new rules, 30,000 migrants a month from these same countries are able to apply online for asylum.
