(FixThisNation.com) – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released its Homeland Threat Assessment for 2024 in September where they predicted that there would be a number of security issues that the country would face. These include both foreign and domestic terrorist threats, as well as issues with its adversaries and facing any issues that come up during the election cycle to avoid any violence from erupting or possible foreign influence from interfering with the election.

The main threats that the DHS warns about in the coming year include:

  1. The War in the Middle East

The Expansion of the Israel-Hamas war has shown no signs of slowing down. The war first broke out on Oct. 7, 2023, following an attack by Hamas. In retaliation, Israel launched a heavy air and ground campaign against Gaza. The Gaza health ministry estimates that over 22,000 Palestinians have lost their lives as a result of the war. The war has caused tension across the Middle East which could result in the conflict expanding further.

  1. The Taiwan Issue

Following the heightened tension between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Biden, there has been simmering tension over Taiwan, a self-governing island that China wants to bring under its control. The tensions increased further as Taiwan was preparing for its parliamentary and presidential elections.

  1. The Russia-Ukraine War expanding

Another threat that Washington will need to be on the lookout for includes the possibility of the war between Ukraine and Russia expanding. This could be particularly detrimental as the United States have provided billions of dollars of military and economic support to Ukraine over the past two years.
