(FixThisNation.com) – On Thursday, former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan during an interview on CNN stated that the lawsuit for which former President Donald Trump was booked in Georgia would have never happened if he had acknowledged his defeat in the 2020 presidential election in the state.
Duncan stated that things would have been easier if Trump after stating that he believed the election in the state was rigged would have left the state officials recounting the votes and then after the recounts had acknowledged that he lost the state and could come back and win it in the next election. He added that if that had been the case the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack would have never occurred and the Republican brand would not have been “soiled” for years to come. He also pointed out that people’s lives would not have been “trainwrecked” in the way they have been now.
The Fulton County grand jury that had indicted the former President along with 18 others on criminal charges had heard Duncan’s testimony prior to their decision. Many right-wing Republicans have slammed Duncan over his repeated criticisms of the former president.
Following his loss in the 2020 presidential election, Trump continuously claimed that the election had been rigged and stolen from him despite the fact that a state investigation determined that there was no evidence of widespread fraud in the state.
Georgia prosecutors in their case are accusing the 19 defendants, which include Trump, his former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and his former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani of organizing a scheme to overturn the elections through fake electoral college votes.
