(FixThisNation.com) – McKay Coppins, a biographer for Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) stated that it would not be surprising to him if Romney announced that he would support President Biden instead of former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.
On Monday during an interview on the podcast “The Press Box,” Coppins stated that he would be keeping an eye on whether or not the retiring Senator was going to be endorsing Joe Biden in the presidential election. He added that while he has not talked with Romney about something like this he would not be surprised or shocked if this was something he was planning.
Coppins recently published Romney’s new biography and argued that he did not believe there was a chance of Romney supporting Trump in the election. He added that the real question was whether or not Romney was going to provide his support for Joe Biden. This was a question that he did not have the answer to as Romney was a conservative but he felt that his party had alienated him.
As he pointed out, the Republican Party has completely lost its way and it currently feels like there was no way in which he could back Trump, or someone like him.
During the two years in which Coppin was writing the book, he had been given access to the private journals and emails of the Senator. They also had weekly interviews. The book covers Romney’s struggles with accepting the direction that the GOP had taken, and in 2019 he had become the first Senator to have impeached a candidate of his own party.
