(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Trump’s campaign has announced that they would be appealing the decision of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows who found that Trump was ineligible to appear on the state’s primary ballot.
The decision by Bellows was made on Thursday, where she argued that under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, anyone who had previously sworn an oath to the Constitution and had engaged in insurrection was barred from holding office again.
Following this ruling, the Trump campaign issued an attack against the Democrat secretary of state noting that she was a “virulent leftist and a hyper-partisan” supporter of President Biden. Steven Cheung, the spokesperson of the Trump campaign, argued that what they were witnessing was an attempt from the left to steal the election. He added that these partisan attempts to interfere with the elections in the state were an attack on American democracy as they were pushing for voter “disenfranchisement.”
He continued by noting that the campaign intended to appeal the ruling and argued that they knew that both the American people and the Constitution were on their “side.” He further pointed out that former President Trump was currently leading the polls while President Biden’s levels of support continued to drop.
Bellows in her decision argued that Trump had falsely pushed the election fraud allegations and had been aware of how his unfounded claims could result in an increased likelihood of violence being sighted. She added that following his push of this false rhetoric he had done nothing to stop the ensuing violence in a timely manner.
