(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Donald Trump has been pushing the House GOP to continue with their demands and allow the government to shut down claiming that the blame will fall with President Biden.
Congress has until Sept. 30 to pass a government funding bill and avoid a government shutdown. However, House Republicans have thus far been unable to agree on a strategy that would keep the government funded and stop it from closing.
In his post on Truth Social Trump maintained that the Republicans would not be blamed if the government shuts down. He further argued that previously the Republicans had lost big on the debt ceiling deal and had not gotten the things they were asking for. Finally, he stated that Joe Biden would be blamed if the government shut down.
In his post, Trump also pushed GOP members to not back down on their demands even if that meant that the government would shut down. Republican lawmakers according to Trump should push for an end to the weaponization of the government and election interference, while also securing the southern border.
Earlier this year bipartisan legislation was passed that allowed an increase in the debt ceiling. As part of that deal limits on spending for the next fiscal year were set. However, the conservative branch of the Republican party has argued that deeper spending cuts needed to be made.
Last week a stopgap spending measure was also taken out of the voting schedule because of the opposition in the House. Conservatives also blocked legislation that would have allowed the Pentagon to be funded.
