(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Donald Trump who is the frontrunner of the 2024 Republican primary race has announced in a new video that if he wins back the White House he has a plan for pharmaceutical drug manufacturing to return to the U.S.
The video of Trump’s plan was released on Rumble and in it he stated that this was not just about a public health crisis but rather it was a national security crisis. He added that his plan is for the U.S. to become completely independent from China, which will be achieved through import restrictions and tariffs that are going to help return all essential medicine production back to the U.S.
Trump further claimed that Executive Order 13944 which he had signed in 2020 would have started bringing back drug production, but that President Joe Biden had reversed the order a year later and failed to bring back production. As he added this was an urgent matter as American lives are the ones being threatened. He noted further that the return of production was going to help in the creation of many new American jobs.
Trump’s executive order stated that federal agencies were required to purchase American products in order to increase the domestic production of medical devices and medications that are believed to be important to public health according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They also would require that the U.S. international trade agreements be modified so that federal agencies would no longer purchase essential drugs from the 120 countries with which the U.S. already has a trade agreement.
From 2021 to 2022 the shortage of drugs increased by 30 percent, with 295 active drug shortages occurring within the last year. Within the country, there is a shortage of at least 14 different cancer drugs, which is particularly important as delaying cancer treatment means that the risk of death increases by 10 percent for every month of treatment being delayed.
