(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Donald Trump’s attorney John Lauro stated on Wednesday that he wanted to move the trial relating to his client’s recent indictment to after the 2024 presidential election.

In an appearance on “Today” with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie Lauro claimed that it was “absurd” that the Department of Justice was looking to speed up the trial. He added that Trump, who is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, should be allowed to have in his hands all of the facts and information of the case.

As Lauro pointed out, the Department of Justice and then Special Counsel Jack Smith had been given three-and-a-half years while also having 60 federal agents, 60 lawyers, and other government personnel working in this case. And yet, they are now looking to have a “speedy trial” that is going to take place in 90 days. He proceeded to question whether this was “justice” for the former President to have the trial take place within such a short time frame when they had three years to spend on this case.

He further said that prosecutors were trying to get a speedy trial because they wanted to disrupt Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and they wanted to draw attention away from the issues relating to President Biden.

Lauro pointed out that the presidential election was ongoing and that they were looking to have a fast trial because they want Trump sitting in a courtroom. He further pushed that there were other areas where the trial could be held instead of in D.C. which is a heavily Democratic area.
