(FixThisNation.com) – On Sunday, a new CBS News/YouGov poll was released where over half of President Biden’s supporters claimed that the primary reason they are supporting Biden is in order to oppose former President Donald Trump.
The poll found specifically that there was a 7 percent increase from March in the percentage of likely Biden voters who will be voting for the incumbent in November, bringing the number to 54 percent.
According to the poll, the second-highest reason that people were voting for Biden was because they liked him, with 27 percent stating that was the case. This marks a decline from the March poll when 31 percent had taken that position. Finally, another 19 percent of voters stated that they were backing Biden because he is the presumptive Democratic nominee.
CBS pollsters pointed out that many of the voters were framing their decision either as a choice or a referendum that greatly affected their choice. Of those who claimed that the presidential election was a judgment on the former President, 66 percent voted for Biden. For people who view the election as being a judgment on Biden, are similarly voting for Trump (66 percent).
Voters who perceive the election as a comparison between the two are slightly more likely to vote for Trump with 53 percent voting for the former President and 47 percent voting for the incumbent.
The poll also showed that Trump and Biden are essentially tied both nationally and in battleground states as Trump received 50 percent support and Biden 49 percent support nationally among likely voters. The percentage slightly changed in battleground states, where 50 percent of likely voters backed the incumbent while 49 percent backed the former President.
