(FixThisNation.com) – On Monday during a press gaggle on Air Force One White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blasted former President Donald Trump for referring to those convicted in relation to crimes committed during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack as “hostages.”

Jean-Pierre was specifically asked whether the President had any comments to make in regards to Trump calling the Jan. 6 defendants “hostages.” In response, she pointed out that President Biden during his speech on Friday had attacked Biden for having embraced the extremism that took place during the Capitol riots.

She added that she had seen American veterans talk about how “offensive” it was for those responsible for attacking law enforcement officials and attempting to overthrow the government to be compared with veterans who had given up their lives to protect the United States. She added that these comparisons are “grotesque” and that President Biden had openly spoken about his view of the January 6 attack and what the choice that people have to make is.

On Saturday, during an Iowa campaign stop, Trump had called for President Biden to release those who are currently imprisoned over their connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol attacks. He added that the “J6 hostages” had “suffered enough.” This is not the first time that Trump has referred to those attacked as hostages, he had made a similar statement in November.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” echoed the language used by Trump by also adopting the term “hostages” to refer to those imprisoned after the attack.
