(FixThisNation.com) – Both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden have been pushing to appeal to Black male voters through their message as the demographic could hold a lot of power in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
While Black voters are in their overwhelming majority identifying as Democrats, there have been concerns since 2020 that Black men in particular have been leaving the party. These concerns had grown even more when in 2020 Trump had managed to win 12 percent of the Black vote.
Now, many observers have pointed out that Black men could be decisive in the upcoming election.
Black Male Voter Project founder Mondale Robinson argued that he did not know what the pathway to victory would be without Black men. Still, he pointed out that strides needed to be made daily with the demographic and not just with those in it who are politically engaged.
Enfield, N.C., Mayor Robinson argued that the majority of Black voters within his county did not see themselves represented in the current political sphere. He added that 60 percent of Black Americans were choosing not to participate in elections repeatedly and that despite this, candidates were following the same strategies. He proceeded to then question what these candidates believed their pathways to victory would look like without Black men.
Black voters have a vast array of interests that covers a number of issues including health care and education. Still, experts have pointed out that for either candidate or party to win the support of this demographic they will need to focus their attention on the election.
