(FixThisNation.com) – Following Sunday’s announcement by President Joe Biden that he will be dropping out of the presidential race, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was believed to be one of the top contenders to become his replacement on the Democratic ticket for the upcoming election. However, Newsom has now announced his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the top of the ticket.
In a post on the social media platform X, Newsom praised Harris noting that she was “fearless” and “Tenacious.” He added that currently the country’s democracy and future are at stake and there was no one better to go up against former President Donald Trump and his dark vision of the future. He added that Harris would help lead the United States in a healthier direction.
Harris had previously served in the U.S. Senate representing California and is considered by the Democratic Party the favorite to take over as the party’s nominee. However, there are some Democrats who have stated that they would like to see an open convention, which would be a competitive race where multiple candidates would attempt to win over the support of the party. Still, there are others who were quick to give their support to Kamala Harris who is perceived to be the heir apparent.
Newsom has repeatedly stated in the past that he would not be running for the White House, should Biden end up dropping out of the race. The first time he had said so was in 2022 when he had stated that he would not be running for office in 2024.
