Impact on U.S. Border Towns from Surge in Unaccompanied Migrant Children

Fellow patriots, brace yourselves for a tale of bureaucratic bumbling that would be comedic if it weren’t so tragic. While our esteemed Vice President Kamala Harris has been busy coordinating billions in investments for Central America, hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied migrant children have been pouring across our southern border. It’s time to pull back the curtain on this administrative disaster and its impact on our border towns.

The Biden-Harris Border Blunder

President Biden tasked Vice President Harris with the lead immigration role in March 2021, hoping her expertise would stem the tide of migration. Despite her efforts, including coordinating over $5 billion in investments for Central America, the results have been far from impressive.

“I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.” – President Biden

The reality on the ground tells a different story. Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, over 500,000 unaccompanied migrant children have arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border. This staggering number highlights the ineffectiveness of the current strategy.

The Central American Investment Gambit

Vice President Harris has touted the billions in investments for Central America as a solution to the migration crisis. However, these efforts have fallen short of their intended goals.

“This summer, at the Summit of Americas in Los Angeles, I announced that, working with the Partnership for Central America, we generated more than $3.2 billion in investments.” – Vice President Kamala Harris

Despite these investments, the surge in unaccompanied migrant children continues unabated. Between October 2023 and June 2024 alone, more than 90,000 unaccompanied children were encountered at the southwest border, with 80% coming from Central America.

Impact on Border Towns

The influx of unaccompanied migrant children has placed an enormous strain on U.S. border towns and communities. Local resources are stretched thin as these towns struggle to provide shelter, food, and medical care for the arriving children.

The cancellation of several Trump-era immigration policies by the Biden-Harris administration has only exacerbated the situation, leading to a significant rise in unaccompanied migrant children encounters. This policy shift has left border towns ill-equipped to handle the surge.

Security Concerns and Child Welfare

Perhaps most alarming are the reports of lax vetting practices for unaccompanied minors. This has resulted in some gang members and adult migrants being released into the U.S., posing potential security risks to border communities and beyond.

Furthermore, incidents of potential child trafficking connected to unaccompanied minors have been reported, raising serious concerns about the welfare of these children and the ability of border towns to protect them.

As the situation continues to unfold, it’s clear that the Biden-Harris administration’s approach to the border crisis is failing both American communities and the very children it claims to protect. Our border towns deserve better, and it’s high time for a policy change that prioritizes security, orderly immigration, and the well-being of both American citizens and legitimate asylum seekers.
