(FixThisNation.com) – Following Saturday’s assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump the Secret Service is facing a lot of criticism with many people considering the incident a failure of the Secret Service to protect a high-profile presidential nominee.

A 20-year-old gunman on Saturday had been perched on a rooftop that was less than 150 yards from where Trump was located during the Pennsylvania rally. From that location Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire and injured the former President, killing one rally goer while also critically injuring two others. The authorities fatally shot Crooks only moments after he opened fire.

While Trump has praised his Secret Service agents arguing that they had done a “fantastic job” in keeping him safe from the shooter, there has still been a lot of backlash over this incident which many view as a close call.

Girl Security, a national security nonprofit, founder Lauren Bean Buitta argued that this incident is going to be heavily analyzed and scrutinized. She added that if they find a security failure then the agencies are going to be sharing this information to avoid such an incident from occurring again.

Lawmakers and political leaders from both sides have taken to social media to question how it was possible for a lone attacker to shoot Trump during the rally.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) argued that there were “grave concerns” raised by this incident and about what security measures had been or had not been taken in order to keep Trump safe.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) in his own post on social media argued that “any third grader” would know that personnel needed to have been stationed at the rooftop where the shooter had been perched during the attack.
