(FixThisNation.com) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has backed his latest decision to deploy thousands of National Guard members and law enforcement officials to Eagle Pass in order to block any illegal crossings. Abbott had been blasted over his order that the Texas National Guard is supposed to block the United States Border Patrol from entering Shelby Park located near Eagle Pass.
Border Patrol had previously been using the park as an open-air holding center where they were able to process the people who had been found crossing the Rio Grande in late December during the surge in immigration.
As Abbott shared with CBS News’ “60 Minutes” during an interview they would be looking to barricade every single place that could see people crossing into the country, including all of the places that cartels were using to cross into the country.
The Texas governor also pushed back against the criticisms that have claimed that Texas as a state has been pushing forward its border policy despite the Supreme Court ruling from earlier this month where it was determined that the state needed to provide federal border agents with access to the Southern Border.
In response to these criticisms, Abbott claimed that they were not imposing a border policy in Texas and that they were just enforcing the laws that had already been put in place by the United States Congress.
Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Christopher Olivarez had told CBS News that their focus was on blocking a possible surge of migrants because a processing center in the area by border patrol would just encourage more migrants to cross.
