(FixThisNation.com) – Following the attack from Iran against Israel this past weekend the White House stated that they would be imposing new sanctions which would target the drone and missile program followed by the Islamic country. The new plan was announced on Tuesday by White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

Sullivan pointed out that the sanctions were going to be taking effect in the next few weeks, and that Tehran would be penalized” for having attacked Israel over this weekend. Sullivan added that the new sanctions would specifically be focused on “entities” that were found to be supporting Iran’s Defense Ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Sullivan argued that the new sanctions were going to put pressure on Iran to degrade its military capacity as a means of targeting the problematic behavior of the nation.

On Saturday night Iran launched over 300 drones and missiles as a response to the airstrike in early April from Israel in Damascus, Syria which had resulted in the death of many Iranian military officials. Israel and its allies had downed the majority of the missiles and drones.

Sullivan claimed that President Biden had been coordinating with partners and allies, including the G7 as well as with bipartisan leaders. He added that they anticipate that their allies would also be imposing similar sanctions against the country.

This latest move by the United States is an attempt to prevent Tehran from developing or acquiring nuclear weapons while also putting pressure on the country’s economy.
