(FixThisNation.com) – The White House slammed the House’s impeachment effort against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The White House in a memo that was originally exclusively shared with The Hill slammed the impeachment efforts calling them “baseless” and arguing this was a “stunt.”
Ian Sams, the spokesperson for investigations, argued that all of these efforts were completely a “waste of time” and claimed that it is “unconstitutional” as many legal experts have pointed out. He continued by noting that even Senate Republicans have shown that they have no interest in focusing on the impeachment trial.
However, as he added, the worst part of this is that this stunt is being promoted by extreme Republicans. As he pointed out these are the same people who are behind the failure of the bipartisan border security bill which would have helped the administration address the border situation and provide more resources to Mayorkas.
Senate aides have reportedly said that they want Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to move forward with an immediate dismissal of the impeachment articles. On Wednesday the House impeachment managers are set to appear before the Senate to present the charges.
Sams also noted in the memo that a constitutional lawyer had written a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in January in which he referred to the impeachment as unjustified.
He also pointed out that in January legal scholar Jonathan Turley had written in a column that currently there was no evidence available that showed Mayorkas is corrupt, and warned that impeachment is a slippery slope.
