(FixThisNation.com) – President Joe Biden was asked by reporters whether he considered the indictment against former President Donald Trump to be “politically divisive.” His response was laughing at the question.
On Tuesday, Trump was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection to a $130,000 hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels by his former attorney, Michael Cohen, ahead of the 2016 presidential election. The payment was in exchange for Daniels’ silence over her alleged affair with Trump. Trump has repeatedly denied the affair and has claimed that he had committed no wrongdoings. Instead, he has alleged that the entire case was a politically motivated witch hunt aiming to weaken his 2024 campaign for the White House.
For the most part, Biden and White House authorities have not commented on the legal troubles that Trump is currently facing. However, on Tuesday afternoon, a reporter asked Biden whether he believed the indictment was “politically divisive.”
Biden did not respond to the question, but instead smiled and slightly laughed as the group of reporters was escorted out of the closed-door meeting.
In 2020 Biden ran against then-President Trump on a platform that spoke a lot about the need for unity in America. However, the GOP has repeatedly stated that during his time in office, Biden has divided Americans further.
Earlier Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also declined to comment on Trump’s case, claiming that they have a longstanding policy of not commenting on open investigations.
