(FixThisNation.com) – The Texas National Guard has started installing layers of razor wire in high-traffic areas for illegal crossings along the Mexico border. Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday tweeted images of the installation of the razor wire loops, writing that the National Guard is “working around the clock to secure the border in the federal government’s absence.”
Texas has long focused on border security under “Operation Lone Star,” which was launched in March in order to reduce the number of migrants and drugs that were entering the country through Mexico. Abbott has repeatedly blasted the Biden administration and Congress for their failure to properly handle the border crisis and influx of immigrants.
Abbott in a November letter to the heads of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Military Department wrote that the Texas Guardsmen and Troopers will work at securing the border until Congress or the administration start performing their job and working on securing the border. He added that it is important to continue keeping “Texans and Americans safe and protect against an invasion of the southern border.
In the letter, he also urged them to use all of the available tools and resources they have in order to stop those who are trying to cross the country illegally as well as to arrest those criminals who are breaking Texas law.
According to a news release Operation Lone Star has led to more than 336,000 migrant apprehensions and 23,000 criminal arrests, with over 20,000 felonies being charged.
