(FixThisNation.com) – On Tuesday, a group of over 100 U.S. mayors requested Congress to provide additional funding for immigration. In the letter, they pointed out that the $1.4 billion requested by President Biden was not enough to supply services and shelter to migrants. They added that while that amount was still welcome it would not be sufficient and that additional funding was “badly” needed.
The United States Conference of Mayors stated in the letter that was first obtained by Politico that they were all mayors of cities across the country. They added that migrants had arrived in their city and they were waiting for the outcome of their asylum requests.
However, as they point out, while they welcomed those migrants who had arrived in the city, more was needed for them to gain access to housing, food, employment, and other services. In many of the cities, the local non-profit and government organizations and agencies were completely overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the needs of the immigrants for even the “most basic assistance.”
This is not the first such letter to have arrived from city mayors. In a previous letter by the mayors of five big cities, it was noted that more federal assistance was required in order to handle the influx of the city’s migrants. That letter had been signed by the mayors of New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and Denver who had argued that the Biden administration had not supplied them with sufficient aid, resources, or coordination and that they required more funds in order to deal with the “ongoing federal crisis.”
