(FixThisNation.com) – On Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden declared that the United States would introduce over 500 new sanctions aimed at Russia, in a move to escalate pressure on the country as the second anniversary of its conflict with Ukraine is observed. Biden stated that the U.S. is also set to implement new export controls on almost 100 organizations that have been aiding Russia, in addition to enacting measures to further diminish the income Russia generates from its energy sector.

These actions are intended to hold Russia accountable for its military actions in Ukraine and the demise of dissident Alexei Navalny, according to Biden. He highlighted the ongoing support for Ukraine from the U.S., amidst the critical shortage of ammunition Ukraine is facing and the delays in receiving military assistance from the U.S. due to hold-ups in Congress.

Biden emphasized that the sanctions would intensify the consequences for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s international aggression and domestic oppression.

The sanctions announced on Friday will focus on individuals linked to the detention of Navalny, and will extend to Russia’s financial, defense, and procurement sectors, as well as those evading sanctions globally, as per Biden’s statement.

These sanctions add to a vast array of measures previously enacted by the United States and its allies since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022—a conflict that has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction.

Biden commended the Ukrainian people for their bravery in the ongoing conflict but pointed out the critical need for more ammunition and supplies from the U.S. to withstand the continuous assaults from Russia, which are supported by military supplies from Iran and North Korea.

He urged the House of Representatives to expedite the approval of a bipartisan national security bill to address these urgent needs.
