(FixThisNation.com) – The Biden administration is looking into potentially taking unilateral action in an attempt to bring down the record-high immigration numbers as many asylum seekers have been entering the United States.

The Biden administration is looking for ways to make it harder for migrants to pass the asylum screening test.

On Wednesday NBC News reported that a possible policy change would include Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) being informed to follow a “last in, first out” policy in order to prioritize which migrants would be heading for deportation. Asylum officers have also been informed that they needed to increase the standards that they use in their “credible fear interviews” which is the first screening that migrants are given when they attempt to avoid getting deported.

An official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has questioned the effectiveness of the “last in, first out” policy pointing out that it would not do anything for the millions of migrants whose immigration cases in the United States were already being pushed further at the back of the line.

A congressional aide pointed out that the actions being considered could be taken questionably because raising the asylum bar and deporting those migrants that have newly arrived into the country is considered “low-hanging fruit.” They further pointed out that there has not been a decision yet by the administration about the new approach that they would follow and that a decision could be weeks away.

President Joe Biden is limited in the actions he can take due to the DHS funding running short.
