(FixThisNation.com) – House Intelligence Chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio) in a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker defended the recent comments made by former President Donald Trump regarding the NATO agreements. He further argued that Trump’s political rallies did not actually translate into the policies he followed.

During his appearance on NBC, Welker asked Turner if he had a response to the recent comments made by Trump regarding NATO. Trump during one of his rallies had argued that foreign leaders from countries that were not contributing enough to the alliance should be warned as he would encourage Russia to do anything it wanted against them. Turner however pointed out that Trump had increased NATO’s funding and that he had been a strong supporter of the alliance.

On Sunday he argued during an interview that what he did know was that Trump’s political rallies were not usually translated into the actual policies that he followed. He added that if one looks at the policies he follows and his record then they would see that he had increased funding for NATO, and the European Reassurance Initiative. He continued by arguing that Trump had been the first president to have given Ukraine lethal weapons and that his political record was strong, which was the most important thing.

Trump has previously criticized the NATO agreement and has pushed against countries that were not contributing their fair share to the alliance. During his time in the White House, he had also opposed the alliance.
