(FixThisNation.com) – On Monday, former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that if he wins back the White House in 2024, the first action he is going to be taking in office will be freeing the rioters that had been imprisoned over their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
As he posted his first acts as the next U.S. president would be closing the border, increasing drilling, and releasing all the “January 6 Hostages” who had been imprisoned wrongfully. This is not the first time that Trump has expressed sympathy for rioters who have been charged in connection to the Capitol attack.
Trump’s supporters had violently stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to block the certification of President Joe Biden following the 2020 election. Since then, Trump has stated that he would consider pardoning those who are facing charges over their involvement in the attack. This was something he had reiterated while speaking at a fundraiser for Jan. 6 defendants.
Trump is also facing federal charges in Washington, D.C., over his attempts to stay in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election. He is also facing charges in the state of Georgia over his efforts to overturn the state election results.
Over 1,200 defendants have been charged in connection to their role in the Capitol attack, with over 450 of those having been facing charges for assault or resisting and impeding employees and officers. The Justice Department has reported that over 700 individuals have pleaded guilty to a variety of charges relating to the attack.
