(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Trump defended his statement during a February campaign rally where he had argued that Russia could do as a country anything it wanted to NATO members that failed to contribute to the agreement financially. This defense came on Tuesday during an interview with British politician Nigel Farage on GB News.

The original comment by Trump had been made during his campaign rally in February where he had recounted how he had previously told a NATO country leader that he was going to be encouraging Russia to do whatever it wanted with those allies that had failed to fulfill their financial commitment in the NATO alliance.

Farage had pointed out that Trump’s comments were being used against him and repeatedly questioned whether or not Trump continues to be committed to the members of the alliance that did pull their weight.

Trump had argued that he did not mind if they had ended up using it. He added that this is because what he was arguing was that this was a type of communication. He then pointed out that they shouldn’t have to protect guard countries despite the United States being the country that paid the most for NATO.

The NATO agreement speculates that the military has the backing of all members in the case where one of the member states ends up being attacked. In 2014, the NATO leadership had pledged that they would be reaching the obligation to spend 2 percent of GDP on spending following the annexation of Crimea by Russia. The alliance in 2017 also decided on higher spending because of the pressure from Trump.
