(FixThisNation.com) – On Saturday, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates wrote in a memo that the GOP’s attacks on President Joe Biden were because they were “afraid.”

In the memo, he pointed out that President Biden had his party’s best performance in a midterm election for a new incumbent in more than 6 decades. He added that Biden had “historic accomplishments” and he was uniquely capable of continuing to build on these.

He continued by arguing that considering Biden’s undeniable record it was unsurprising that GOP officials continued their desperate attacks on his age, especially because of all of their failures in recent years.

The memo was released a few days after special counsel Robert Hur put out his report concluding the investigation into Biden’s classified documents case. Hur determined that there should not be any charges brought against Biden. However, in the report, he also made an assessment of Biden’s state and his memory. As he noted, Biden came across during the interviews as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” He added that this is how a jury would perceive him as well, which is why it would be difficult for them to convict a “by then” former President who is in his eighties. As he pointed out this was a serious felony that required him to have a “mental state of willfulness.”

Following the release of the report many top GOP leaders jointly issued a statement calling Biden “unfit” for office. As they pointed out it was disturbing that it was because of Biden’s mental state that the special counsel opted not to file charges against Biden.
