(FixThisNation.com) – The Biden administration announced on Friday that they would allow access to federal-run health insurance to some immigrants who had first been brought illegally into the country as children. This is a rather sensitive issue that President Joe Biden is seeking to address ahead of the November elections.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has noted that with the move of around 100,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), uninsured participants would be able to enroll in the Affordable Care Act’s Basic Health Program and Health Insurance Marketplace.

Former President Barack Obama had launched in 2012 the DACA program. At the time Biden had served as Obama’s vice president. The program provides work permits and relief to immigrants who had been brought into the United States as children or who had overstayed their visas. In the past, DACA recipients did not gain access to the health care plans, also known as Obamacare. However, employers were able to provide them with health insurance, and they were able to buy private insurance. There were also some situations where they were eligible for programs that were funded by the cities or states they were in.

Biden noted in a statement that dreamers deserved to have access to health care much like they all did.

DACA enrollees will also receive access to tax credits, and other financial assistance efforts which are going to be effective on Nov. 1.

Immigration is one of the top issues in the 2024 November election.
